How much will it cost me to make a website?

How much will it cost me to make a website?

So you want to set up a website, but you don’t know how much it is going to cost.

Do you need investment?  Do you need a loan?!  Well, absolutely not, it does however depend on what you are looking to build your website on.
The best advice is to build your assets gradually.  A domain and web-hosting will only cost you $30 Or so a year, $3 per month.  And if you can’t make your own graphics, videos, and promotional material, you can gather these on for another $50 or so, although that is dependant on how much you need, obviously $50 would get you 10 assets on fiverr.  However, you can get a reasonable logo, and promotional video or press release.

What about themes?  Do I need to pay for a theme?

We don’t need to worry about a custom theme, unless you feel comfortable paying for it, and that you will benefit from it.  There are 1000’s of premium themes for free, some of which you are able to customise, and you will often find these are much better quality then paying a graphics designer for a custom theme, unless you are paying them to change it around a bit.

Do I need to pay for advertising?

You do not need to pay for advertising, infact much money is often wasted on google ads, unless you know what you are doing.  There are 100’s of ways of generating free traffic to your website.

You can infact build a profitable website just from free traffic sources alone, unless you want better brand exposure.

Do I need to pay for SEO?

Depending on the amount of time you have, it is often more cost effective to do your own SEO.  You will also find that many SEO services do not provide quality SEO, there are lots of places that you can learn SEO online, and you will benefit more from being able to do some of it your self.

Do I need to pay for scripts?

CMS’s are mostly free, you don’t really need one which is paid, as most of the free ones have 1000’s of themes, and plugins developed for them.  Unless you really need a script you cannot find, you can usually find what you are looking for, free.  If there is a better paid script, you could try to use the free one until you have enough money for a paid script, however there are plenty of scripts on the internet, which cover all sorts of functionality.

Great article and of course it also helps if you have some friends to help you.
I once thought of making a website where friends help friends to make their website.
I reckon YWB could be it :)
