Aside from providing everything from an internet browser to one of the most popular mobile platforms, it’s easy to forget that Google originated as a search engine in the late 90s. The American corporation’s search engine is said to be the biggest website on the internet, as the “homepage of the internet”. The truth is, we all use Google every single day, so those few words that you see under the search bar are for that reason extremely influential.
As the “homepage of the internet” it comes at no surprise that whatever text Google place on their homepage will be seen by millions of users every month. So does that mean that the text under Google’s search bar is the most influential few words on the internet? I would argue, absolutely yes.
Personally, Google is my homepage and it has been for as long as I have been using computers and the internet. I would most certainly imagine that Google is your homepage too, because unknowingly to us, we use Google absolutely every day and it’s a major part of the modern lifestyle.
Google know how much their service is used and exactly how many people will see their main search page every day, so they use this to their advantage greatly. The small text that they place under the search bar is subtle enough not to get in the way, but admittedly we all stop to read it every time we see something. What’s placed here varies greatly, it’s often used by Google to promote or advertise a new product or service offered by them.
However, Google have also used it in the past to promote Charity affairs and other things of that nature. Plus that space is sometimes used just to say thanks. Whatever it’s used for, those few words are extremely influential, aswell as being a huge marketing strategy from Google, and I completely commend them for that.
Do you consider the most influential few words on the internet to be a great strategy from Google, or a hinderance to your daily search? Furthermore, what would you place as the most influential few words on the internet?
