We all know that the money is in the list, the hard part however is building that list. There are dozens of articles online that will advise you this, that or the other but today we are just going to focus on one. (We will leave maintaining the list for another article to come soon..)
One of the problems with email marketing is that there is an increasing trend for people to use “throwaway emails” when using opt-in forms. Incase you did not know Hotmail/outlook.com gives you the option to create “add on emails” inside your email account for different purposes so it is getting easier.
Something you can do however is to use the power of Facebook connectivity to determine those who are currently logged into Facebook and those who aren’t.
Those who are logged into Facebook will be shown a Facebook connect button. The script will then pull the email from their Facebook account and opt the user into the mailing list.
Those who aren’t logged into Facebook are shown the regular email box.
How is this beneficial?
- Less chance of a throwaway email especially as it is the registered email with their Facebook account.
- Better psychology – Facebook connect is fast
How can you implement FB opt-in?
Brilliant plugin – http://hybrid-connect.com, automatically shows Facebook connect rather than email form if user is logged into Facebook. This is definitely one of the best around and I have used it myself. It is easy to use, lightweight and yet very powerful. A single site licence is $49.
There are manual solutions available which would require using the Facebook API to request a user’s email address, you will find some advice on this online however if you are not familiar with using API’s or programming you may find this difficult.
I am yet to find a good free solution however if anyone knows of one please leave a comment below.
Have you used Facebook opt-in before? Did you notice any change in results? Let us know in the comments below..
